The International Social Service (ISS), which is the only recognized and certified NGO for the management of intercountry adoptions, has a long experience in this field since the 1950s, while, at this moment, it has an extensive archive of approximately 3,000 case folders of intercountry adoptions. These folders hide treasures of great historical, social and scientific value: photographs and letters of children, biological and foster/adoptive families, features and articles of foreign newspapers, reports of social workers and child psychiatrists. Every adoptee has the right to access the archival material and information pertaining to their biological parents and adoption (article 1559, 2, Civil Code). As this archive has huge historical and social value, the ISS, in partnership with Greek Ancestry, has begun the process of its digitization, and is preparing for the next step for its preservation and further utilization.

The goal is not only to preserve the archive forever through digitization, but also to facilitate search and access for those directly interested, the adoptees, and also for researchers of relevant scientific fields. Along with access, the ISS aspires to be able to provide adoptees with special and personalized support, as they discover their roots and unknown aspects of their personal history.
